Meet Mark

I have been fascinated with boats since I was six years old. Sailboats, speedboats, pontoons, workboats – the type never mattered. Just going offshore for short or long adventures had some kind of magnetic appeal. From the leaky old Tom Sawyer-like rafts that we built as kids to cross local ponds to the beautiful sailboats we took to the Islands of Lake Superior, I never met a boat that I did not like. I have built boats, repaired boats, and maintained boats, finding great joy in it all.

After leaving the world of information technology, I decided to pursue my passion for boats and become a boat captain. In 2009, I received my Master Captain’s License from the US Coast Guard and formed Mark’s Mariner Services, captaining boats for the passenger vessel industry. My work as a captain introduced me to the field of marine surveying and the many benefits surveyors provide to boat owners, buyers and sellers. Hence, marine surveying was added to Mark’s Mariner Services, offering more value to existing clients and a new service to those who love boats.
